Google Tasks
The Google Tasks toolkit lets agents list task lists and tasks, get a task, create and update tasks, mark tasks complete, and delete tasks. Authentication is per-user OAuth — each user connects their own Google account.
Add it on the agent Toolkits tab. The first use prompts the user to connect Google if they have not already. Tasks shares the Google Workspace OAuth connection with Gmail, Drive, Docs, and related Google toolkits.
Prerequisites
- A Google account with Google Tasks
- An agent you can edit
- Google OAuth configured for your organization (admin)
- Users who will chat with the agent must complete the Google OAuth connect flow when prompted
Setup
- Open the agent → Toolkits → add Google Tasks.
- Save the agent. In Chat, connect Google when prompted.
@-mention Tasks tools in the personality prompt for personal task management.
Available tools
| Tool | Description |
|---|---|
| List Task Lists | Lists the user’s task lists. |
| List Tasks | Lists tasks in a list (use @default for the default list). |
| Get Task | Returns a single task. |
| Create Task | Creates a task (optional due date in RFC 3339; time is ignored by the Tasks API). |
| Update Task | Updates an existing task. |
| Complete Task | Marks a task complete. |
| Delete Task | Deletes a task. |
Use cases
- Capture action items from a meeting into Google Tasks
- List open tasks for today or a specific list
- Complete or update tasks after follow-up in chat
Tips
- Use
@defaultwhen you mean the user’s default task list. - Due dates are date-oriented — the Tasks API ignores time-of-day.
- Access is limited to the connected Google user’s task lists.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| Google OAuth not connected | Complete the Google connect prompt; confirm Tasks scope |
| Empty task list | Confirm list ID (@default vs a specific list from List Task Lists) |
| Create/update fails | Reconnect Google; confirm Tasks API access for the account |
